CSI STAFF REPORT

The First Baptist Academy girls cross country team finished eighth out of 20 teams at Friday’s Class 1A-Region 3 meet in Lakeland to earn its first-ever trip to the state championships.

FBA’s girls team consists of Gaby Alcalde, Alexis Baker, Katie Beam, Victoria Blankenship, Ella Flynn, Juliette Lane and Kate Urbancic. Beam also qualified for the individual competition at states with a top-15 performance.

The FBA boys squad, which set numerous personal records this season, finished ninth and narrowly missed the cutoff for states by three points. However, Austin Flynn finished inside the top 15 to qualify for states as an individual runner.

The state championships are scheduled to be held Nov. 9 in Tallahassee.
