The boys have showed significant improvement from the beginning of the season and have come to really gel as team of late. The coaching staff looks forward to another great season next year.”

14U DIVISION

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 12, COYOTE BIG DAWGGZ 3
Date: Saturday, April 28
Location: Buckingham Park, Fort Myers
Record: Big Dawggz 8-3
Big Dawggz coach James Scanlon: “The score doesn’t really convey how closely matched the teams were and how tightly it was played; overall we gave them a good run for their money, but they managed better scoring opportunities and turned in an undefeated season. We had standout performances from goalie/midfielder Yates Miller, midfielder and face-off specialist Quinn Hepler, midfielder/defender Kyle Saffron, midfielder Tom Kodak and goalie/attackman James Scanlon. Over the span of the season we saw great improvement in both our experienced and new players, and can boast that we were the only team to have over 90 percent of our players record at least one goal. About half of our team will be “graduating” from CCLA as they move on to high school next year — some of them have been with CCLA for over seven years, and should provide a new influx of even more talent into our local high schools. I’ve been coaching CCLA since 2011 and I’d say our ‘retention’ rate for boys coming back the following season has to be over 90 percent — and the rest of the players on my team all stated they are returning to CCLA next year to take back the championship trophy we claimed in 2017.”

LIL’ COYOTES 14, ESTERO GORILLAS 5
Date:
Saturday, April 28
Location: Buckingham Park, Fort Myers
Record: Lil’ Coyotes 5-5
Key players: Lil’ Coyotes — Sam Shields (4 goals, 12 face-offs), Corbin Cartwright (3 goals, 5 face-offs), Graham Roche (3 goals), Dylon Flood (2 goals), Joe Meyer (1 goal, 8 groundballs), Brandon Sawyer (1 goal, 4 groundballs), Shaydon Sields (10 saves), Jonathan Koponik (12 groundballs).
Summary: The battle for third place started off with Joe Meyer scoring off of a man up in the second quarter. Several extra-man opportunities allowed the Sharks to build a substantial lead. The Gorillas fought back with a set of scores in the third quarter but great hustle and physical play by Collin Quinsey and Brandon Sawyer helped to stop the Gorillas from ever getting back into the game. Corbin Cartwright, Sam Shield and Graham Roche led all scorers, and Sam also dominated at the face-off X. His brother Shaydon fended off a barrage of shots and was one of the biggest differentials in the game.
Lil’ Coyotes coach Joe Meyer: “These young men, many of whom have graduated this day from rec to high school lacrosse next year, have all been a pleasure to coach.”
