Prep track and field: Two CCAC middle school records broken at North-South meet

CSI STAFF REPORT

Oakridge’s Lukas Furgason and Mason Academy’s Maura Baird both set Collier County Athletic Conference middle school records in their respective boys and girls 800-meter races during Saturday’s North-South Championship at Gulf Coast High School.

Furgason posted a time of 2:08.50 to smash the previous record of 2:11.53 set by Gillermo Venegas of Immokalee Middle School at the 2009 state championship.

A few weeks ago, Furgason ran the mile in 4:55.34, breaking a CCAC record that stood for nine years.

Baird clocked a 2:27.52 to best the former mark of 2:31.94 set by Danielle Degreef of Oakridge Middle School at the 2010 Collier County Athletic Conference finals.

This year’s CCAC track and field championship is scheduled to be held this Saturday at Naples High School.
