The First Baptist Academy junior varsity volleyball team capped a record-setting season this week with victories over Class 8A Riverdale High School and 7A North Fort Myers High School.

The Lions, who entered the season with three returning players from their successful 2017 squad, finished the 2018 campaign with a 24-1 record, including 12-0 in district competition.

The highlight of FBA’s season came in the Riverdale tournament.  After going undefeated in pool play, the Lions squared off against perennial powerhouse Fort Myers High School in the championship match. They took the first set from the Green Wave before eventually succumbing in a third-set tiebreaker.

Said FBA coach Ben Davison: “The key to our success this year was our team unity and our passion. The girls love each other and play with great passion and without any egos. This teamwork allowed us to defeat many much larger schools.”

The Lions’ roster included Lexi Haley, Karlie Pruitt, Kendra Pruitt, Leah Melheim, Adrianna Karterouliotis, Ava Ojanovac, Ella Ojanovac, Lily Hoff and Olivia Perley.

FBA’s statistical leaders this season were as follows:

  • Assists — Karlie Pruitt, 356.
  • Points — Karlie Pruitt, 245; Haley, 177.
